Contracts with embattled businessman to be made public

The Cabinet decided that all contracts which the government entered into with PV Energy, a company owned by bribery accused Peter Virdee, are to be made public.

It was not indicated when the contracts will be released but the government insists “there is nothing untoward, the Cabinet asserts, with the contract(s) to provide solar energy plants to Antigua and in Barbuda.”

“The method of financing was innovative but transparent and capable of open public scrutiny,” a statement Cabinet said.

The principal of PV Energy, Peter Virdee, has become embroiled in a scandal having to do with credits for green energy in Germany. His telephone conversations were taped by the German authorities in an effort to procure evidence of his wrongdoing, relating to Germany.

Two of the taped conversations were about a demand made of him by a member of parliament. Virdee asserts that he did not agree to do anything unlawful. An unlawful demand was made of him, Virdee asserts.
