A Canadian group known as Itopia has made a second visit to Antigua and Barbuda to discuss the growing and harvesting of cannabis for medicinal purposes, according to the government.
The prototype Canadian law governing medical cannabis is being examined to determine how best to make it fit the Antigua and Barbuda circumstances.
In his visit this week, the Itopia group also brought a Ph.D. scholar who has studied the abuse and impact of medical cannabis and other lawful prescription drugs on populations, especially among youth.
According to the expert’s findings, the licensing system can be structured to minimize abuse.
That expert will also study the Antiguan reality in order to inform the decision-makers when the legislation is being written.
The group will meet with a Cabinet Sub-committee on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, to further tweak the draft legislation.
