The southwestern quadrant of the island from Christian Valley to John Hughes, where businesses have dedicated themselves to green tourism and sustainability practices has been identified as the Green Corridor.
The Ministry of Tourism Antigua and Barbuda today (Thurs) officially launched its Green Corridor sustainable tourism initiative during a plaque unveiling ceremony at the John Hughes Playing Field.
During the brief unveiling ceremony, Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Tourism, Economic Development and Investment Mr. Walter Christopher noted that today’s activity signaled the island’s presentation of a more sustainable tourism product; however it is not the first step towards achieving this goal.
“These businesses, upon adopting these practices, will now benefit from National Recognition as a Green Business inclusive of Awards, Marketing Support through the National Tourism Authority, and Cost savings for the business over the long term”, stated the Charles Max Fernandez Tourism Minister.
Participating businesses in the Green Corridor initiative are inclusive of Sugar Ridge Resort, Coco’s Hotel Antigua, Darkwood Beach Bar and Restaurant, Rose Macs’ Herb Garden, Christian Valley Agricultural Station and Cade’s Bay Pineapple Farm, Keyonna Beach Resort, Turner’s Beach Bar and Restaurant, OJ’s Beach Bar and Restaurant, Dennis’ Cocktail Bar and Restaurant, Jacqui O’s Beach House, Antigua Rainforest Canopy, Carlisle Bay Resort and the John Hughes Community/Wallings Nature Reserve Group.
