In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma, the Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM) leader, Trevor Walker, recounts his and his family’s own horrific experience and says that it will take “years” to rebuild Barbuda.

“We have to rebuild an island, rebuild an economy,” laments the BPM leader. “I mean the infrastructure is totally gone. All the infrastructure is damaged, communication is out and all the hotels on the island are damaged significantly.”

“I got word from the manager of the Coco Point [Lodge] that they are not even thinking of reopening the hotel for this year.”

The main opposition leader, however, called for the Prime Minister Gaston Browne to, “bring the country together and let us work in the interest of the people.”
