Barbuda Council refusing to sell sand to Antigua

7

The Barbuda Council has reportedly told the Public Works Department that it can no longer provide sand to make concrete for the improvement of the roads and sidewalks in Antigua.

The government did not state the reason for this but has resorted to getting sand from neighbouring Montserrat.

“The Director reported that a barge-load of sand from Montserrat reputedly costs $200,000.”

“Hence, government resources that ought to go to further the rebuilding and relief efforts on Barbuda may have to be diverted to purchasing sand from outside of the state,” according to Government’s Chief of Staff Lionel Max Hurst.

The Director of Public Works is to hold dialogue with the Barbuda Council in order to reverse that decision the government said.

  3. It’s time to stop sorry Barbudan didnt do it 20 years ago .They would be in a better place. The Lord will provide.

  4. As Barbuda and Antigua are joint when it comes to Antigua stripping the rights of Barbuda over the land issue isn’t it right that Antigua government has to pay the Barbuda council you can’t have it all your own way and then not pay
