(PRESS Release)

The Tourism Committee of the Barbuda Council convened on 11th May 2018 to discuss the Caribana festival on Barbuda.  In consideration of the circumstances on the island such as a lack of sufficient electricity and the continued efforts to rebuild houses the festival will be significantly downsized and postponed until a further date within the year.

All stakeholders were involved in the decision making process including the Honorable Daryll Matthew Minister for Festivals, the Coordinator Mr Yannick Beazer, Maurice Merchant Chair of Festivals and the general public.

The Barbuda Council recognizes the importance of this cultural activity and looks forward to the return of Barbuda to normality and for the continued support from its patrons for Caribana 2019.

  1. What turns on it….nothing. However I am trying to make logic as to what was disclosed is a postponement or cancellation of caribana 2018. As far as my dunceness is telling me to the extent you not having caribana 2018 then it was a cancellation and what will take place in 2019 is the caribana event for 2019 lest the committee dubs it caribana 2018-2019!
