A member of Team Wadadli Atlantic Rowers is one of two men on trial in the High Court in a major drug case.

The offence is believed to have taken place long before Rowan Bailey decided to embark on the historic journey.

Bailey, 55 and 56-year-old Kenneth Wyre were arrested in 2010 after ONDCP officers allegedly found them with over 50 kilos of cocaine.

They were charged with Possession of the control drug, Possession with intent to supply and Drug Trafficking.

The incident occurred in Clarks Hill as the men were allegedly transferring the drugs between vehicles.

Rowan Bailey who is also known as Archie Bailey was on bail for this offence when he became a member of Team Wadadli Atlantic Rowers.

Team Wadadli was the first local team to participate in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge.

They arrived at Nelson’s Dockyard in early 2016.

  1. Something is fundamentally wrong with our Criminal Justice system. Men caught and arrested in 2010 for cocaine, now 2019….9 years later and now a trial. The merit of whether or not they are guilty is besides the point. I just find that it is horrible that its taking 9 years to bring to trial. Why is this? There ought to be a statute of limitations on these matters. It is inhumane to have such things hanging over a suspect head for so long without bringing the matter to trial. Archie was celebrated and toast as one of the sailors in the historic Atlantic journey…now this. What a way his country is paying him back. ONDCP and the Police are a bunch of crazy quacks and this matter should be thrown out as I see this as a waste of the courts time.

  2. I totally agree with the sentiments issued above by the first contributor. Can’t see how it takes 9 years for the case file to be complete and the matter brought to trial. This amounts to cruel and inhumane treatment. Something seem to be very wrong here.
