The sentences for convicted robbers, Glenis Messiah and Corian Thomas were reduced by the Court of Appeal this afternoon.
The men were both sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2016 for robbing Western Union in March of 2011.
Messiah’s sentence was reduced by four to sixteen years while Thomas’ penalty was reduced by two to 18 years.
The court heard that the men were masked when Messiah entered the establishment and demanded that no one move.
Thomas who was armed with a gun stayed at the door as the lookout.
The men later made good their escape with over $6,000.
Thomas received the more severe sentence since he was armed with the weapon.
While the court of appeal justices agreed the original sentences were excessive for the first-time offenders, they dismissed grounds which were raised as reasons to set aside the convictions.
