Antigua and Barbuda is set to introduce stricter safety measures for Carnival 2025, officials have confirmed.

Cabinet Spokesperson Maurice Merchant outlined new rules for parade trucks, including bans on smoking and drinking onboard, no children allowed, and covered wheels. The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) will deploy linesmen to manage low-hanging wires during parades.

A security pamphlet detailing these protocols will be given to all participants.

The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission reported that planning milestones are on track. A joint marketing campaign with the Tourism Authority has pushed hotel occupancy above 90%, with airlines nearing full capacity for the festival period.

New partnerships with private promoters promise a lively event lineup, including the 40th Anniversary Concert of Burning Flames and a Face Off Concert featuring Asa Banton and Tian Winter.

Carnival competitions have seen record registration, and soca and calypso tents are fully operational. Workshops on vocal training and adjudication are planned, while outstanding artist prize payments are being addressed.

New parade routes will use streets on the outskirts of St John’s, with efforts underway to enhance lighting and decorations.

Carnival runs from 25 July to 5 August under the theme “Itz A Vibe.”
