The newly elected head of the Public Transport Union (PTU), Gregory Shoy Athill, is leading a delegation to meet Antigua and Barbuda’s Attorney General to discuss urgent issues facing transport operators.

The talks follow a PTU executive meeting on Monday, where representatives of major taxi and bus associations debated challenges including the impact of certain vehicle plates, the rise of ride-share apps, and union leadership.

Athill, also president of the Antigua National Taxi Association, was elected PTU chairman for a one-year term, succeeding Patrick Burnette. He pledged to strengthen advocacy for operators and raise public awareness of threats to their livelihoods.

The PTU said the meeting with the Attorney General is the first step in seeking government support to address the sector’s difficulties.

  1. Gregory “Driftwood” Athill is a traitor.
    He must not be trusted.
He will betray the PTU to keep his National Parks Authority board seat.
I do not believe and neither does he believe that he has the best interest of tge taxi drivers at heart.
He will not support them in anything that he believes threaten the comfort of the government.
Members of the PTU would be well served getting him out of being the face of their union.
    Athill is a TRAITOR.
He is no longer a patriot.
    He is an ASS KISSER!!!!!!!!!

  2. Competition is good for improvement,
We have digicel, apua, and flow
Ride share app might be the way to go.

Many times some of these taxi’s reject to transport locals for the US dollar and when season slow they shouting out “taxi! ”

It has been a monopoly In that tourism sector for over 50 years, time to abolish that, persons who possess good customer service skills ,who seeks to get into the organization get alot of hassle, you will here no space is available even if 10 taxi drivers retired and and 10 passed away.

People purchase their vehicle and are creative why should one be denied if the intention is pure?, if they come up with a way of entering the tourism sector to provide for their families. Enough is there for everybody but greed has captivated some. More hotels more transport, whether taxi’s ,professional drivers . Each endeavoring all achieving not some.

The problem is not the app, the problem is unprofessional drivers who will do anything for money while transporting the passengers.

I have a nice app idea who can I speak to get it out there?
