New Political Party Antigua and Barbuda National Congress Launches

11

The Antigua and Barbuda National Congress (ABNC) is a new organisation established to end the disturbing, decades-long trend of lack of accountability, transparency, and fiscal discipline displayed by government under both the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) and the United Progressive Party (UPP).

In the past year only, our nation has been repeatedly caught in scandal after scandal, after scandal, after scandal.

We exist in a persistent drought for truth and honourable conduct from those tagged with honourable titles. We suffer through excessive and crippling taxation, the absence of consistent quality health care, and basic infrastructure, among others.

Worst yet, on every single occasion and issue — from nepotism to non-performance, criminal conduct to chronic waste, exploitation to self-enrichment — criticism from one as against the other is simply countered by a reminder of when the same or similar thing was done by the criticiser. Both the ABLP and UPP appear content with playing “punchinella,” but governance is not a children’s game, and their approach is neither clever nor entertaining.

The Antigua and Barbuda National Congress (ABNC) is pleased to present itself as an agent for the delivery of standards of governance that produce economical and other tangible benefits, which serve the interest of the State of Antigua and Barbuda and, by extension, her people.

The ABNC is committed to engage with individuals who are guided by our nation’s motto — “Each Endeavouring, All Achieving.” Though mindful of the claims of a historical disadvantage of supposed “third parties” in Caribbean politics, we are undaunted in our belief that for actual good governance and a better life, ABNC is poised to be your best option.

We look forward to having the opportunity of being elected to govern this country and to redefining how our people perceive and benefit from public service.

  1. Who represents all constituencies in this new party, new year new party, them old guards have another contender to hold their feet to the fire for 2026, I am watching this space.

  2. This is so true, I wish this new party all the best! Sick and tyad of Labour and UPP dragging dem foot, don’t wash way like sand like DNA either. I might even consider joining, any other party is better than what we have now.

  3. Hope this New Party is not another one like DNA, just come to bash the Opposition to give Gaston Browne and his Cabal another 5 years to rip and plunder. If you want broad support you got to hit both equally hard. DNA died a natural death because they weren’t for the people, they were just about destroying UPP. The people in DNA didn’t even know their own DNA

  4. I honestly like to see when more citizens get involved in the political dynamics of the country and this is good for our democracy. Whether or not Antiguans and Barbudans are ready for a third political party is another issue. Ask Joanne Messiah. As a people we tend to really limit our focus to the two main political parties and third parties has been unable to get much traction over the years. But I wish this new party the very best and I hope that the attention can be more on issues and less on personality. We do need a lot of changes in this fair land of ours.

  5. Fantastic news for our democracy.

The more the merrier. The 40-odd year of the Bird-Browne dynasty must be broken up once and for all. It’s not working!

Antigua & Barbuda have been calling out for financial transparency, accountability in regards to ongoing self-enrichment; the blatant ignoring of Freedom of Information Requests; continuous price gouging; and the constant delays in paying wages, pensions and overtime.

    The above cannot continue unchallenged.

The ABLP and Gaston Browne have got very complacent (they can’t see it), and the country is balling out for some sort of change.

If this new party do what they say they’re going to do, then hopefully the ABLP becomes the minority party clinging on only to their sycophants, acolytes and Gastonites.

A word of warning to the new party though. This ABLP government will try to steal your good manifesto ideas to dilute your messaging. Watch out!

    THE DEMOCRATIC FIGHTBACK HAS BEGUN…

  6. As a political party which wishes to be taken seriously, this introduction lacks substance. Where’s the beef!! 😳

In 2004, Antiguans (not Barbudans) threw all their eggs in one basket and supported the UPP, only to find out that there’s no difference between ALP/ABLP/UPP.

I think most residents of A&B welcome a new party; however, we need the planks of your platform. Don’t expect us to blindly follow because you made some hollow pronouncements

  7. First, there was WACS.
It was the Workers Almagated Congressiinal Symbol.
It was an all in one party.
    The party was one man.
It started in Lower Ottos and got as far as West Bus Station before it died.
Then there was once another party named Democratic labour Party.
It was a one man marty owned by Hugh Marshall Sr.
He was the political leader, president, chairman, secretary, public relations officer, and all other executive.
It started and died at Country Pond.
Then there came along Alister and Kublai.
They formed a party named National Movement for Change.
It was born in Old Road and died at Dark Wood.
    It couldn’t go any further.
Missing Link came on the scene.
Amidst several promises to identify one member of his party he is yet to do so.
He has contested several election and no one has seen a member of his party.
He started in Villa and died at Point Wharf.
If every member of those three parties were to win their seats they still could not have formed a government.
Just imagine four parties all members winning their seats and still not able to bring about political change.
So Mrs Pero-Weston, while i think that your heart is in the right place, I verily agree that you are climbing a vertical mirror.
    May I ask you this.
Can you present the identidy oaf ONE member or your party.
If you do, I will follow you.
Until then, just guarantee us that you are not Lamming Newton, Winston Williams, Anthony Smith, Dimani Tabor, Edmund Mansoor, Philmore Benjamin, Donna Chaia, Namba Adams, Collin Browne, Gregory Athill, Daryll Matthew, Chet Greene, Cheneil Imhoff and Devon Joseph

  8. Another set up by ALP and Gaston to split the votes in the upcoming election, notice the upp though not in government has be made parallel to ALP by this paid mercenary, PLH and perhaps the Chinese and them one percenters guys is financing them to prevent a change of government.
