New lighting installed at Bolans Playing Field to improve safety and community use
New lighting has been installed at Bolans Playing Field, a development local officials say will expand access to the facility and improve safety for residents, particularly young people.
In a social media post, ABLP Caretaker Senator Dwayne George said the project marks “an important milestone in securing the future of our community and, most importantly, our youths.”
The upgraded lighting is expected to allow for evening use of the playing field, supporting sports, recreation and community events beyond daylight hours.
“This improvement ensures that children, teenagers, and young adults have a safe, well-lit environment to engage in sports, recreational activities, and community events, even after the sun goes down,” George said.
He added that the investment goes beyond infrastructure, describing it as part of a broader effort to support youth development and community well-being.
“By investing in spaces like Bolans Playing Field, we are not just improving infrastructure; we are investing in the growth, development, and well-being of our next generation,” he said.
The installation includes multiple high-powered LED lighting units mounted on poles around the field.
George said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community spaces across St. Mary’s South, adding that such projects contribute to “a stronger, brighter, and more vibrant” community.

Nice I’m glad to see this being rectified. But I hope that Pacesa will take the initiative and give some consideration to villagers and leave on either the complex lights or the play field lights until daylight especially now that the tent is on the grounds. Bolans is the only area where none of the lights stays on at night and both sporting areas are central in the village.
