A private diagnostic imaging centre in Antigua has begun carrying out MRI scans before its formal launch, in an effort to reduce long waiting times for patients needing critical imaging.

Doctors Medical Centre said the decision was taken after continued pressure on existing MRI services left many patients waiting weeks for scans needed to guide treatment.

The facility is equipped with an open MRI system — the first of its kind in the Eastern Caribbean — designed to better accommodate patients with claustrophobia. Artificial intelligence technology is used to enhance image accuracy.

Medical director Dr Joey John said access is not limited to referrals from Mount St John’s Medical Centre and is open to the wider public, with an emphasis on clearing the current backlog.

The centre, staffed by trained specialists and fitted with new equipment, plans to offer a full suite of diagnostic imaging services.

Health officials have long warned that limited imaging capacity has slowed diagnosis and delayed care across Antigua and Barbuda.

  1. Is that ths work of a journalist or a politician trying his or her hands at journalism?
Do I just walk up Market Street and I will end up in the facility?
Now we know that politicians want to have a hand in everything in Antigua.
They will neglect government facilities and services so that businesses in which they have interests benefit.
So, I am asking the question.
Which politician has shares in this business?
Was the delays in getting MRI and other diagnostic services at MSJMC/SLBMC deliberate.
For a long time now we have been calling for Shaq to be returned to ths hospital so that the minor servicing needed on those ealquiptment can be done.
    Those pleas have been rejected.
Was all that a part of the plan to let the equipment at MSJMC/SLBMC get to a state of disrepair so that the friend’s business can benefit?
One day Antiguans will stand up and tell the laboRAT politicians no.
    No to their constant sodomizing!!!!

  2. Straight Shooter, you hit the nail on the head. Theywant us to believe health care in Antigua is so good, but our main hospital cant even provide MRI on a daily basis. Our politicians seek health care overseas, so no need for them to worry . Remember they bought health insurance grom our CIP money. People better wake up .

  3. This must be the new facility that has been under construction for a while next to Epicurean. Once completed and fully operational, it will probably offer the best level of care on the island but like all private medical facilities, the services won’t be cheap so you better have good insurance or deep pockets.

  4. So which politician getting a kick back on this endeavor? So now the government will have to pay Joey John to use this equipment while they neglect getting this type of equipment for the main hospital. SMH

  5. Our Hospital have a MRI equipment, X-Ray equipment also and is working. They don’t use it intentionally to benefits others business privately.
Same Doctors working at the Hospital are the same working in private clinic or have private clinic. That is pure scam. They don’t give enough services intentionale, they delay services intentionally.

  6. The SLBMC’s MRI APPOINTMENTS have been BACKLOGGED for Quite a while NOW ….. I am wondering if the MRI Equipment at The SLBMC is working at all ….. Several Persons have been waiting for WEEKS NOW to have their MRI Examinations done…… Just wondering exactly WHAT has been the CAUSE of THIS Delay ……
