A new fire station at the Old U.S. Navy Base in Coolidge became operational on February 13, 2026, improving emergency response in northern Antigua.
The facility will serve Coolidge, Barnes Hill, Blue Waters, Cedar Valley and Cedar Grove, according to Fire Department PRO Inspector Lester Bagot. Residents can continue calling 911 or use the station’s direct line at 562-0180.
Corporal Emrol Samuel said the station will ease the workload previously handled mainly by St. John’s firefighters, allowing for faster response in the north. Operator Corporal Rika Phillip also encouraged women to join the service, saying she remains passionate about firefighting after 13 years.
Officials expect the new station to reduce response times and strengthen public safety in the area.
