He expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by Prime Minister Browne, noting that it means a lot to him.
Despite his new ministerial role, Smith reassured the public that he remains dedicated to his duties as an independent member of the House of Representatives.

Smith further explained that his decision to resign from the UPP was not taken lightly. He had been battling with what would be best for the people and felt unwanted in the UPP.

On the other hand. Since you are now by extension responsible for the CMC. I hope and trust that you take a closer look of that institution and especially the Board Chairman. One of your former UPP brothers that jumped ship before you. I hope you can reign him in before the entire board resigns. The environment is very toxic.
