All structures and debris have been cleared from the Nevis Pier area after a written directive set an April 4th deadline for removal. The cleanup has opened up the waterfront, making it more attractive to visitors and residents. To deter a return of unauthorized vending, the nearby private parking lot has also been blocked off. Observers say similar action is needed in St. John’s, where the surroundings are said to fall short of the city’s modern aspirations.

The government needs to follow Ryan’s lead. This practice of allowing vendors to turn the whole place into a dump at the public expense is ridiculous.
You can feed your family without making the place look like a shanty town!
NEXT STOP: the shanty town at Woods Parking Lot!
It’s about time. With this shanty town style look in the heart of town is ridiculous. Especially on Saturdays. It’s time to fix this. It nor look good.
But they will tip toe around the syrians shack shawarma shops and the layout of there stores in town like shack like Syria ghetto where they come from, and also the Chinese shack restaurant.
The Ryan Group of Companies did give those vendors sufficient notifications to move out. If they failed to follow instructions that is the ending results. Tear down all those shacks and clean up the place.Well done, by the Ryan Group of Companies.
That is not an Antiguan thing either. These structures are Guyanese and Jamaican style. The Antiguans and Dominican vendors kept the place in order. Then came the influx of the GT and JA vendors. To survive the Antiguan and Dominicans had to do something and some of them advanced up market street as well.
Around the public market is even worst. A mixture of vendors and vagrants. The market management gave some people permission to sell outside the market square during Christmas , they continue in their tent store every day. The side walks are filled with tables and Vechicles selling everything. They even block up the place selling bread, in and out their Vechicles. Antigua bakery delivers to the shops and supermarkets. They do the same and then they go on market street. The police use to prevent Antiguan from selling up town. The JA and GT vendors spread out right up market street and Carnally as well. Worst yet they are running so much race that some of the have two, three and even four stalls or locations. They have one by Sammy, one to the west of the market, one by Cornalley and still have people selling on market street. Then there is mother, daughter, father , sister, brother, cousin, uncle- same family, same household. Remove some of those men and send them on the farms or construction.
The Antiguan vendors stay in the market. They don’t run race as it’s called. They don’t keep the place untidy. The days when the farmers are supposed to come and sell, the these vendors take over the entire market area. St. John’s department , in collaboration with DCA should do something immediately. The managers of the market are taking bribes and have allowed this to get out of hand. We need to get back our market. See how it looked on VC Bird day or on Labour day. When the place is cleaned up . That is how around the market should look all the time.
Antiguans we need to take back our town.
The area looks better to be honest.
Its almost like you’re renovating Antigua. Clear up these streets and let Antigua be a true tourism attraction again
People can’t even afford to make a living without badmind. These people come out to try and make some money to pay Antigua’s high taxes and you choose to get them out. why not build nice little huts fr them
Hurry and cleanup St John’s.. Bird bust right and left side..market street area plssss
I am in full agreement with you on this. I understand ppl are trying to. Earn an income but not at the expense of others.
I hope this is just the beginning
Yeah it does look like the Ghetto by the VC Bird bus stop. Impeding the slow of traffic.
Get rid of them all. They produce garbage they don’t clean up they block pedestrian traffic and are rude, it is unsightly. The public shouldn’t be stuck having to clean up after them and they don’t pay taxes.
Get rid a dem!
All these hideous looking shacks and stalls surrounding bus station, on market street need to be removed some of them on Market Street, and All Saints road in the damn road our town looks awful
