Nearly half of the roughly 40,000 Antiguans and Barbudans required to replace their voter ID cards have yet to do so, leaving the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission with a significant shortfall.
Official figures show 19,567 applications have been received, meaning about 20,000 eligible voters—almost one in two—have not started the process.
The replacement drive began in August 2024 for holders of expired cards, but uptake has remained slow. Of the applications recorded, 18,320 were submitted in 2025, with just 1,247 added so far in 2026.
Recent data suggests declining momentum, with 212 applications in the first week of March dropping to 129 in the second and 43 in the third.
The Commission is urging residents who have not yet updated their cards to visit their constituency registration units with the required documents as soon as possible.
