A 40-year-old former national football player has been sentenced to 39 years in prison for murdering his 19-year-old ex-lover in 2012.
Errol Barnes was sentenced by a High Court Judge today for the crime that has been described by the court as cold-blooded.
The teenaged mother, Mellissa Rose, was shot in the heart while she sat in a vehicle with a man outside her John Hughes home.
Prosecutors said Barnes could not accept his relationship with the woman was over and jealousy lead him to the house armed with a pistol.
