A 24-year-old man charged in connection with the death of a visiting Guyanese law student will learn next month whether his case proceeds to the High Court.

Victor Ince of Lightfoot West was due to appear before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel on Wednesday, but his committal proceedings have been rescheduled to 5 November.

Ince is accused of forcibly seizing and confining 19-year-old Joyleen Abraham, a University of Guyana law student who was visiting Antigua in May, before unlawfully killing her.

Abraham was found unresponsive on 7 May along a rural road linking New Winthorpes Village to the Jabberwock main road. She had reportedly travelled to the island to see a personal friend.

Investigators say the student allegedly jumped from a vehicle driven by Ince before being discovered. A doctor pronounced her dead at the scene.

Police impounded the vehicle for forensic examination and questioned Ince about the circumstances surrounding her death.

  1. The charges include forcibly seizing and confining the young woman, as well as unlawfully killing her. Wicked man. You stripped a young woman of her future. She loved school. Loved education. She was a dreamer. She had plans for her life..You took that away. Rott in hell

  3. No way she jumped. If she had jumped she would have had broken bones. But her injuries were only head trauma. I suspect she was unconscious or already deceased when she was thrown from the vehicle. Let’s see how this plays out and if the investigators have made a mess.

  4. Every time I see this incident I am still wondering how did we get here she is only nineteen, this breaks my heart to see how this young bright and shining star left us ,call me naive but my child wasn’t going to make that trip

  7. Let’s see if this case is pushed back to a later date. We have now seen a trend where every murder case that comes to this court has being adjourned and push back to a later date. This to me puts a mediocre look on our justice system.
