Road and drainage works in sections of St. John’s Rural South, along with upgrades to community facilities used for youth, cultural and sporting activities, are either completed or scheduled as part of ongoing constituency development, area Member of Parliament Daryll Matthew said during the 2026 Budget Debate.
Matthew told Parliament that infrastructure improvements within the constituency remain a priority, with continued attention being placed on road conditions, drainage and the upkeep of public spaces that support daily community life.
He said the works are intended to strengthen physical infrastructure while improving spaces used for organised community activities and events.
“There should be no barrier to entry,” Matthew said, linking constituency improvements to his broader approach to access, opportunity and community development.
The MP said community facilities used for youth programmes, cultural activities and sports are also slated for upgrades, as part of efforts to ensure residents have safe, functional spaces for organised engagement.
He noted that improvements to public spaces are being carried out with community use in mind, particularly areas that host events and activities involving young people.
Matthew also pointed to expanded access to training and education opportunities for young people in St. John’s Rural South through national programmes, saying those initiatives are intended to create structured pathways for youth development.
“These are the things we need to do to ensure our people get a good education,” he said, tying constituency-level development to national education and training efforts.
He added that young people from the constituency are being encouraged to take part in cultural and national events, with opportunities linked to the country’s festivals framework and wider cultural programmes.
Matthew said continued engagement with residents will guide how constituency projects are prioritised and implemented, noting that development planning is being shaped by ongoing dialogue with community members.
