Happy Independence Antigua and Barbuda
We celebrate our 43rd Anniversary of Political Independence under the theme: “Antigua and Barbuda: From Community Collaboration to Global Gains”. We thank God for his mercies, and we commit ourselves to the cause of justice, income equality, social and mental wellness, and to the cause of nation-building.
It is time to recommit to building resilient families and communities and by extension, a resilient nation. Community collaboration is therefore critical to the advancement of our people and our nation as we carve out our space on the global stage.
As we strive to make a greater mark globally, it is imperative that we denounce the political, economic and social divisiveness that permeates our nation today.
We must fully embrace integrity, accountability and transparency in our governance structure. We must fight together to stamp out partisanship and corrupt practices which threaten to stymie the development of our beloved nation.
I am reminded of a patriotic calypso by the late Joseph “Calypso Joe” Hunte, which says in part: “Brother it’s fighting together, Not among one another, is the only war we should wage. Only sober decisions will prove we have come of age.”
Coming of age requires the inclusion of all, including the youth.
I observed the zeal and enthusiasm of the youth during our Independence celebrations and I know that if we continue to focus on them and give them opportunities to grow, our nation will, in turn, benefit in a most positive way. The future looks bright. So, let us strive to create a new and lasting positive legacy for generations to come.
As we celebrate the magnificent black, gold, blue, white and red of our flag, I pray for renewed peace and stability in our nation.
Happy 43rd Anniversary of Political Independence to all citizens and residents of Antigua and Barbuda and special greetings to the residents of the St. John’s Rural West constituency. May God bless Antigua and Barbuda.

Beautiful and uplifting message MP Richard Lewis. What a pity you are not the Political Leader of the UPP and with God’s blessings the next Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda.
This don’t sit right with me as the opposition leader should have been the one to make a speech, atleast first. Under the ABLP you don’t see any MPs making personal messages when they have a whole leader. This is more deeper than we all see. Does Lewis thinks he is the leader? If so then let him resign ,not try to overthrow him. People don’t like ugly.
Interesting message. Always interesting to hear what political representatives believe and what direction they are heading in. Grateful for calls for peace and unity. Not sure what “income equality” is supposed to mean though. People should get a fair pay that matches at least the minimum cost of living with opportunities for advancement but everyone does not need to have “equal pay”. Pay depends on the job a person opts to do. Also, the focus on global positioning of the country… Is that our focus? Thought we just wanted food, clothing and shelter. Sure we want to participate in and make a contribution to the global community and train our people to be able to work anywhere in the world if necessary, but I didn’t know we were trying to take over the world. Thought we just wanted to live in peace…
Richard Lewis, you need to stop it! You are forever trying to upstage and embarrass the leader of the party that allowed you the opportunity to become a Member of Parliament. You are obviously ignorant of the rules and etiquette of proper political behaviour, especially within the context of a political party. You are just a representative of a particular constituency, and as such your message should be addressed to the residents of that constituency. Not to the nation as a whole. Let the Political Leader address the nation on behalf of the party and himself. You are usurping the privilege and position of the constitutional leader of the party. In doing so you are demonstrating contempt and disrespect for the entire party and its leadership. The divisive, crass, rambunctious attitude you have exhibited over the past several months has served the enemies of the UPP thereby begging the question “In whose interest are you operating within the UPP?” If this is your style of behaviour and political operation, I shudder to think what kind of leadership you will provide in the unfortunate event you ever became a minister of government or (God forbid) Prime Minister of this country! Only a monster has two heads, Richard Lewis. Stop trying to turn the UPP into a monster.
From MP Lewis’s Independence Anniversary message we can take away many things. I choose to take away the call for unity, peace and prosperity. Collectively and politically we are now forty three years old. We have been governing ourselves forty three years now. We can celebrate the joys and freedoms that we have and sometimes take for granted and reflect on our collective behaviour and what we want to do going forward. MP Lewis in many respects has made me think about the future for all of us in a changing world.
An Independence message from MP, Richard Lewis but none from the political leader? Wah ckyan go so?
Did the puppet master forget to write her lil black boy speech #she not moving so he nah move. It was a lovely night at the interpretation center last night. Where was Richard last night?
@ Eldridge you really does not know what is going on. It is the practice of all MPs and Caretakers of the UPP party to send our independence nessages so there is nothing wrong with Richard Lewis message. He is not trying to upstage Pringle. What you must remember also Richard Lewis can write his own message and does not need Gisele or anyone else to write it for him as the case with Pringle. Please let up and give Richard Lewis a break.
@St. John’s times Richard Lewis was rightly at home with his Jamaican wife since the puppet master Gisele nah like she. Until the UPP puts Gisele in the back room the party will go no where. She is highly disliked nationally but she believes she is so loved. What a delusional woman. I guess she is loved by the Women Forum and her own woman.
Why does this SINISTER, DANGEROUS, BACK STABBING, SCOUNDREL insist on UNDERMINING the Hon. Jamale Pringle????????????
Pay attention Pringle. Use your veto powers and block this ass from running on your ticket!!!! He cannot be trusted!!!!
Richard Lewis is ALL OF SELF!!! Now I understand why Gisele Isaac can’t stand him or his yardie wife!!!
This fool clearly has ulterior motives!!! Get rid of him now Pringle!!!!
What a RETARDED-LOOKING MP photo. That lopsided CROOKED smile is exactly like his character: CROOKED!!! You will NEVER become PM of Antigua and Barbuda.
You showing you true colors and a dutty colours dem be. You low down dirty messy self, trying to puff up ya chest and act like you didn’t lose the convention. You a behave so POWER HUNGRY and desperate fu party leadership dat e mess up you head. U naida good fu party are country. You heart in de wrong place.
@ Truth Be Told you would agree it does not take a lot to undermine Pringle. All MPs give independence message. Go tell Pringle to write one so he would not be undermined.
@From Grays Farm
You would agree that being a BADMINDED SORE LOSER is not a good look
The Jamaican man is motivated by SELFISHNESS. Pringle is a born and bred Antiguan. No Jamaican influence overtaking his mind.
He is Antigua 🇦🇬 💯
You all cussing Richard Lewis for giving an independence message rather than Pringle but nobody is stopping Pringle from giving his own message. Where is it? I have not seen it as yet? Truth be told, Pringle is probably still waiting for someone to write it for him as he is incapable of writing his own message.
@ Truth Be Told ask Pringle how much money he spent and who he got it from to buy the Convention results. The UPP criticize the ALP always of buying votes and they do the damn same thing. They are just hypocrites and Gisele and Pringle are the biggest ones followed by Chaku and Werner.
And the covert infighting continues. I have noticed MP Lewis absence from recent independence events and even the UPP independence Gala. At some point both the MP and the political leader will have to make peace in the interest of the party.
It’s unfortunate that the party hates MP Lewis so badly for his choice of marriage to a Jamaican which shouldn’t be an issue given we are all CARICOM. It’s also unfortunate that MP Lewis resentment towards the Opposition Leader is so evident that he continues to undermine the meager confidence that exist in the position of the political leader.
I truly wish that both MP Lewis and the Opposition Leader can resolve their differences but honestly, I am not the least confident that this can be achieved.
