STATEMENT BY MP RICHARD S. LEWIS
I am currently overseas and woke up to the devastating news of the tragic death of promising young cricketer 16-year-old Vonde Bowers. I wish to convey sincere condolences to Ola, David and the rest of Vonde’s family. My heart is aching for my community.
Crime in our community needs to be controlled and soonest. A multi-faceted approach is needed. I call on all of us as residents of this community to join in the fight against this scourge.
Let us end the finger pointing and work together to devise a crime fighting strategy. We are all in this together.
We need to also focus on crime prevention. We need more youth intervention programs.
To this end, I must highly commend the Office of Youth Intervention within the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda for their youth intervention programmes in our community. They need our full co-operation and support. They are helping us to help ourselves. We have a duty to support their endeavours.
We need a community united against crime and violence. I call on parents, schools, churches, community groups, sports clubs, etc. to double the efforts in the fight.
Let us save our young people. We cannot give up on this generation. Enough time has been spent talking about the problem. Let us be a part of the solution.
Our community is bigger and better than the problems we face. Together, we can overcome.
God bless.
Richard S. Lewis MP

You over there pretending to be an MP and boycotting your party’s activities.
Somebody ought to remind silly Richard that the UPP Constitution gives the Leader the power to determine who makes the final cut on the slate of candidates.
Have time to use AI to compose press release, but no time for party unity.
Still a SORE LOSER!!! CONVENTION RESULTS STILL STAND!!!
The most Honourable Richard Lewis has hit the nail on the head when he mentions that everyone must now come together to halt these crime surges that’s now a growing cancer in Antigua.
A cross party concensus, the police and all community groups (including our churches) must now step-up and come forward with concrete ideas and solutions to end this torrential crime wave from becoming a tsunami.
I understand why the current ABLP government dare not go public with this negativity, because it would detrimental to our tourism industry.
But this shouldn’t be a reason for their current silence; especially after the gun attack and robbery the other day of an 81-year-old woman.
We Antiguans need action, and we need it now!
Confused. Thought the young man was from Liberta. Condolence to his family
Why blame the Gov’t & for the young people’s ignorance & stupidity?
The gov’t & parents can only do so much & no more ….
A horse can be taken to a pond and be forced to drink, but it will not drink the water if chooses not to. The same applies to a child.
Who can’t hear will feel. It is sad that we are now living in a BAD BOY era just to prove a point.
My sympathy goes out to the parents of the cricketer. The youngster had great potential
Well said Richard, don’t worry about the naysayers, bunch of red winged idiots, they never know when to rise to the occasion
@brixtonian: it don’t need no political party cross talk, what’s needed is the parties quit the adversarial cross talk on the media which is portraying an acrimonious relationship that teaches the youth to polarize into gangs living acrimoniously. Gaston need to stop curse upp. and Giselle and others need to stop curse Gaston or his family, the politicians create the atmosphere of hatred.
Look…I respect Mr Lewis, but I respectfully disagree with his assessment of this matter, and for that matter, the crime issues in Antigua, and not just by the youth.
Drugs and guns are still coming into Antigua, literally by the boat loads, so what does church, parents, and the regular man on the corner can do about that?
So yes, Gatson Browne and his foolish AG is directly responsible for that..so yes I will continue to point my fingers on them.
The immigration problems in Antigua is atrociously lacks, where you have serious breach of our boarders in the Antigua Airways debacle. What do parents and churches, and more so the regular people had to do with those lacks in government planning, where they were duped?
By the to way, does anyone know if those illegal immigrants are still in Antigua?
And how many criminals from other islands that run to Antigua for cover, is it the churches or the regular man’s responsibility to do background check on these criminals?
These things are direct policies or preferences of this Government.
When you continue to pursue a corrupt policy like the CBI, who is doing the bidding for that policy, isn’t it the Gatson Brownes Administration?
So yes Mr Lewis, I respectfully disagree with you..I got one will continue to blame this government, because their policies are a big part of why Antigua is where it is today.
A good tree cannot bring forth bad fruits, period. This government is a bad tree that has been planted, plain and simple.
Call a spade a spade.
