Over the weekend, the Parliamentary Representative for St. John’s Rural North, Hon. Charles ‘Max’ Fernandez, marked a significant milestone by spearheading the distribution of over 750 packed school bags and essential supplies to children across his constituency. This year’s event was particularly momentous, as it commemorates a decade of unwavering commitment to supporting the educational needs of the community’s youth.

“This annual initiative is more than just providing supplies; it’s about ensuring that our young people have the tools they need to succeed, especially during these challenging times,” said Hon. Fernandez. “Our youth are at their most vulnerable, and it is our duty to support them in every way possible. By equipping them with the necessary tools for learning, we are investing in their future and the future of our nation.”

The distribution included a wide array of items: school bags, lunch kits, water bottles, exercise books, activity and coloring books, pens, pencils, calculators, geometry sets, flash drives, rulers, pencil cases, erasers, and crayons. Each bag also contained a personalized message from the MP, encouraging students to pursue their dreams with determination and resilience.

The message read: “Dear Students of St. John’s Rural North, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. As you step into this new school year, remember that each day brings you closer to your dreams. Believe in yourself, work hard, and success will follow. Best wishes for a fantastic school year ahead!”

Team members working alongside MP Fernandez emphasized the critical importance of this effort. “Easing the strain on parents by providing school supplies is not just an act of kindness, but a necessity,” a team spokesperson remarked. “Minister Fernandez’s ongoing commitment to this cause reflects his deep understanding of the challenges faced by his constituents.”

In a special moment during the event, one of the recipients of the back-to-school supplies, Ms. Oskeya Toney of Yorks Village, was recognized as the top-performing student from this year’s Grade 6 National Assessment Examination among government schools. In addition to her supplies, Minister Fernandez presented her with a laptop to further support her academic journey.

This annual initiative by Hon. Fernandez continues to be a beacon of hope and support for the families of St. John’s Rural North, demonstrating his dedication to fostering a strong, educated, and resilient community.
