Government Launches $3m Social Housing Fund for Vulnerable Families
The government has pledged that its new National Housing Renewal Initiative will prioritise support for the country’s most vulnerable families.
This week, Cabinet approved the creation of a Social Housing Development Fund with an initial $3 million allocation. Maurice Merchant said beneficiaries will be selected through a rigorous vetting process overseen by a dedicated board, which will prioritise applicants based on need.
The fund will operate on a non-profit basis, sustained by government and private sector contributions, with future replenishment through investments. Officials say the approach is designed to ensure that resources are targeted effectively and maximise the impact of every dollar spent.

Action speaks louder than words … other housing projects/areas police, nurses, teachers and few government workers are the ones who they give the house they pick and choose and I’m sure this will be done with this housing project. My former neighbor has few children but 4 are underage who lives with her I bet if she applies she will be told she’s not eligible due to financial reasons just as others will be told the same 🙄 government helps who they want and some others to make it look good for the media
This is a step in the right direction. Too many families are living in unsafe conditions, glad to see the government finally prioritising them.
Housing is a basic right. This fund should bring hope to people who’ve been waiting years for proper accommodation.
For thise actually in need or for those in need of passive income? Last time I checked I didn’t qualify cause my income was too low.
It will be interesting to see what the selection process looks like
As someone who knows families struggling with housing, this is heartwarming news.
