CABINET NOTES: The Cabinet received an update on the runway and terminal in Barbuda that were scheduled to be opened in this December month.
A new date for the first-use will likely be after Christmas 2023.
More than US$14 million have been expended to construct a 6,100-foot runway, on Barbuda’s south side, that is to be extended by 1,000 more feet in the coming months.
Several super-luxury, low-density hotels are to be constructed on Barbuda in the coming year, making Barbuda a net contributor to the revenue collection of the Inland Revenue Department.

So Euletta Francis was right to resign and Gaston failed to please the puppet masters with an opening before Xmas. Even though no laws were followed to construct the airport you can not force an airport opening without sign off and safety in place.
The article does not state that Barbudans money was used and will pay back over the next 80 years ! But we won’t use the airport ?!?!?!
And ultimately the case brought against the airport will be the demise of the groundfaking of these imaginary hotel developments and the scheme to sell Barbuda in real estate
Oh hush @ Barbuda Man. So ya’ll don’t wan’t pay fu nutten. Every minute is balling balling. One day all will come full circle. Oh, and my comments don’t have a damn thing to do with politics, but ya’ll can still come for me. I don’t give a damn! Frigging sickening now! I said what I said.
You need to hush!! Because BARBUDA have been paying for themselves outside OF WHAT IS LAWFULLY THEIRS. Barbudans never begged antigua for anything and they were comfortable with having what they did. Everyday antiguans balling, a aryou one fu cry. Cry for water, cry for roads cry for food cry for bills.. nobody must cry but yall??
Well highlighted @ Kerry, you are right to castigate @ Hmmmmm?
Antiguans have been crying out for all the things you have mentioned, and I admire the way that Barbudan’s stand-up to the ABLP’S discriminatory practices against you, and just because you didn’t vote for them. Vindictive!
I wish more Antiguans had your “take no nonsense” and fighting spirit.
My partner has ancestral Barbudan heritage and has the same spirit of questioning bad practices.
There’s definitely a big difference in the MINDSET of the two islands … 🏝 🏝
Can someone dare to explain what the opposition party ever done for Barbuda? I would really like to know, and many other people would like those information also. Ummm, wonder how many decades we’ll have to waite for such information!
As usual Cabinet Notes are used to prime the public. Thats why they call the Office Prime minister. How is the public being primed here?
The Barbuda Airstip and structure being called the Barbuda Airport, is being carried out to benift PLH primarily and at a later date the other luxury developments which has been announced.
This airstrip and building are are awaiting a Privy Council ruling. Based on the hearing it is likely that the Privy council will rule in favor of the two Barbudans who brought the case to the privy Council. The case brought was to establish if Jakie Frank and JoHn Mussington has standing.
The defendants Antigua Airport Authority, The GOAB Attorney General and DCA thought they were being cute when they challenged Jackie and John on standing.
Jackie and John’s initial case was to bring an injuction to stop the construction of the airstrip andbuilding on the basis the the legally required environmental reviews were not done.
Once they win their case on standing. They will have to bring several new cases. First they will have to bring a new injunction to stop the opening o id its opened to stop any an all airport operations at that site.
Interestingly Cabinet for the first time is informing the public that $14 Million is being spent on the airport. Frankly it does not matter how many millions are being spent. Mentioning the amount of money at this time is a rouse to influence the public.
It is an enviromently damaging unlawful project; which Gaston and Cabinet thought they were going to weardown the Barbudans by taking them through the ringer in the eastern caribbean court system . Now that the handwritting is on the wall at the Privy Council; the new message has become; how can they expect us to tear up a $14 million brand new airport?
Whose $14 million was spent? Antigua?, Barbuda?, PLH?.
Teat it down!! and clean up the environemental mess.
