More litter wardens to enforce environment laws

CABINET NOTES-The Cabinet agreed that littering is a continuing challenge across the country and is determined to create a new culture of cleanliness and order among the population.

The Cabinet agreed to hire more litter wardens with the object of ensuring that the fines stipulated within the law, for littering, are enforced.

The Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with Global Ports Holding (GPH) will be working with Schools across the country to encourage youth to participate in the “Keep your Community Clean Campaign“, and will deliver prizes to the cleanest school compound participating in the competition

  1. It is about time I want to see this enforce, we have no civic pride we should not keep Antigua clean just because tourism is our main industry it should be kept clean all the time. It is very disturbing littering all over the place and when you see them littering and tell them throw it in the bin, them upset with you and start to cuss. Fine them!

    • The people who are doing this are illegal immigrants from Jamaica, Haiti and DR. We all know it, and they know and the government knows it.

      If you let filthy people illegally immigrate into Antigua, the filthy people will do filthy things.

  3. More Litter Wardens will not help to curtail the problem. This is just to save face for the SIDS Conference coming in May.
    One rain drop can’t fill Potswork Dam.
    A proper GARBAGE COLLECTION PROGRAM from recycling, collecting and disposing must be in place.

    The fines will not be paid.

    It will cause issues at the Courts.

    Who will pay the fines for children who litters, their parents or guardians?

    • @Aloenso…”Civic Pride” is a #Cultural_Dynamic which develops over time, through the norms, habits, ways of life that powers said culture.

      Once you [realize] the norms and habits by way of observing and feeling the pulse, of the culture, then the determination(s) can be made, as to how best to change those norms.

      Hiring more Litter Wardens, to police Civic Pride is fruitless.
