Moon Gate Antigua Names Maurine Bowers Executive Chef

Moon Gate Antigua has appointed Maurine Bowers as its new Executive Chef, marking a major milestone in her nearly three-decade career in the kitchen.

Bowers, who has built her reputation at several of the island’s leading resorts, takes on her first executive role, where she will oversee all kitchen operations and shape the resort’s culinary offering. She described the appointment as both a personal triumph and a proud moment for a young Antiguan woman stepping into leadership at a new property.

“I am so happy and proud. This is a big position for me, not just because it’s my first Executive Chef title, but also as a young Antiguan woman at a new property. I am not afraid of challenges,” she said.

While eager to design creative menus, Bowers said her greatest passion lies in mentoring and developing talent. She has long supported young chefs through the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) and has served as a judge at regional competitions. Last year she led Team Antigua & Barbuda at the Taste of the Caribbean in Miami and is set to return as a judge at this year’s event in Barbados.

“I love judging,” she said. “You get to showcase your experience and skills while helping mould younger chefs through critique. I like to mentor, encourage and see people succeed.”

At Moon Gate, she plans to extend that mission by nurturing young culinary professionals and fostering a positive team environment.

The resort hailed her appointment as a landmark for both Moon Gate and Antigua and Barbuda’s wider hospitality industry.

Wonderful news…im so glad to see they didn’t bring in some white man or another nationality for that position when local picky head people can do the job and even better..I just hope they pay her a decent salary because I’ve come to reliaze there’s a disparity with pay when it comes to our people…
