A cat whose disappearance sparked a viral search on Antigua News Room has been found safe, thanks to a community effort fueled by social media.

Animal welfare group Paaws Antigua confirmed Monday that the cat, accidentally released in the Willoughby Bay area, was located after a successful sighting. The pet belonged to a visiting U.S. national who had offered a US$500 reward for information leading to a reunion.

Paaws said it helped circulate the appeal after the story gained traction on Antigua News Room, prompting widespread sharing and tips from the public. The cat wandered into a nearby home, where residents recognized him and were able to keep him safe until contact was made.

The couple declined the reward, opting instead for the money to be donated to a local charity, Paaws said.

The cat is now set to travel to the United States with his owner. Paaws thanked the residents who acted quickly, as well as social media users who shared the original post, noting that while not every case ends this way, each successful reunion makes a meaningful difference.
