Lauren Howe, winner of Miss Universe Canada Pageant 2017/2018 enjoyed a week-long stay in Antigua and Barbuda which concluded yesterday, 26th August 2018. Having secured this trip as a prize for winning the pageant in 2017, Lauren and her mother ‘Laurie’ journeyed to the twin-island paradise on August 19th to see what our islands have
The mother and daughter pair quickly got the ball rolling by checking into one of the most laid back, all-inclusive, adults-only resort, and the Award-winning – Pineapple Beach Club. The hotel hosted the duo in their renowned Chairman’s Suite that is perched atop of the resort’s premises, boasting an immaculate panoramic view over the main pool, beach area.
“The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority always strives to increase the exposure of our stunning destination in Canada to attract new visitors. We saw the perfect partnership opportunity in the Miss Universe Canada Pageant winner, Ms. Lauren Howe. As an influential personality and brand ambassador it was fitting to have Lauren experience the destination by showcasing all aspects of our beauty, culture, heritage and history, which will then be shared with her network” said Colin Skerritt, Director of Tourism ABTA Canada Office.
Lauren and Laurie relished the opportunity to explore the destination. They were treated to an island tour visiting historic hotspots such as, UNESCO World Heritage Site Nelson’s Dockyard, Shirley’s Heights, Devil’s Bridge, with a scenic drive through fig tree drive where the duo sampled the sweetest pineapple in the world, the Antiguan Black pineapple. The day officially culminated with a local lunch on Little Ffryes Beach.
A few other major highlights for both were the stingray encounter at Stingray City Antigua; Laurie was particularly amazed that the Southern Rays were not kept in captivity and appeared as friendly as the people she had been interacting with on island; dinner at Papa Zouk restaurant which quickly became a favourite as Lauren dined and sampled their famousT’Punch welcome drink and of course, the visit would be incomplete without venturing over to sister island Barbuda on Tropical Adventures’ Excellence Catamaran boat tour. Lobster was the catch of the day for a scrumptious lunch and relaxing after somewhat rough seas was had with a healthy dose of appreciation for Barbuda’s untouched beauty on LowBay and Princess Diana Beach.
As a first trip for both ladies to the destination, it was an all-around good time had by all with assurances to return in the near future.
