
Minor Earthquake Recorded North of Antigua, Not Felt
— A minor earthquake measuring 3.8 in magnitude was recorded north of Antigua and Barbuda late Friday night, according to the UWI Seismic Research Centre.
The seismic event occurred at 8:50 p.m. local time on March 20 (00:50 UTC on March 21), with a depth of 10 kilometres. Preliminary data placed the epicentre at latitude 19.22 north and longitude 62.56 west.
The quake was located approximately 247 kilometres north-northwest of St. John’s. It was also recorded 214 kilometres north of Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, and 272 kilometres north of Brades, Montserrat.
There were no immediate reports of the tremor being felt in Antigua and Barbuda, and no damage has been reported.
The Seismic Research Centre noted that the location was automatically calculated using computer algorithms and remains subject to revision following further analysis.
