The Ministry of Works is urging motorists to avoid parking on newly installed sidewalk grills, warning that the structures are not designed to bear the weight of vehicles.
In a public advisory, the Ministry explained that the grills were engineered to support pedestrian use only. Parking on them, it said, risks causing structural damage and creating potential safety hazards for both pedestrians and drivers.
“These sidewalk grills are not built to withstand the weight of vehicles. We are asking all drivers to be mindful when parking near sidewalks to avoid damaging these new structures,” the statement read.
Officials stressed that repairs to damaged grills could lead to unnecessary costs and inconvenience to the public. The Ministry is appealing for cooperation to help maintain the integrity and safety of the recently installed infrastructure.

I agree no vehicles should park on the sidewalks….
But the initial construction of these grills should be made from metal .
This Government is a joke, people in Antigua park any way dem feel like and that is all over the island. The park too close to corners even though markings are there, they park pon sidewalks while people haffu walk pon de road in a traffic and police see um ebry day and no do nutten, dis place jus shitty
That fibreglass material is sh+t that can withstand pedestrian with the level of sun heat we have ere, I personally don’t walk on them the get dryrot quickly, haven ministry of works saw so many of the broken an cave in? That’s waste of money, the metal grill were the best
