The most recent reports received by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment from the Mount St. John’s Medical Center (MSJMC) and the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) have revealed one new laboratory confirmed COVID-19 case in Antigua and Barbuda as of Friday 18th September, 2020 at 6pm.

Subsequent to the publication of the dashboard on Friday 18th September, 2020 with the cut off time of 6pm, fourteen samples were processed at the Mount St. John’s Medical Center’s Laboratory which increased the pending results from eighteen to thirty-two.

All fourteen samples processed by MSJMC yielded negative results and are reflected in the total samples taken and total tested columns of the dashboard.

Of the eighteen samples sent to CARPHA, one returned positive and seventeen were negative. The single positive case has no reported travel history.

Consequently, the total number of persons with laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases in Antigua and Barbuda is ninety-six with one active case.

The dashboard has been updated to reflect these changes.

  1. The only thing that surprises me about this most recent data is the revelation of ONLY one newly confirmed case of Covid-19. Look around you. Residents, not limited to Antiguans, openly flout the basic recommended protocols. We don’t bother to wash our hands before entering supermarkets or other public places. We don’t bother to wear masks in public with impunity and even when we do we wear them incorrectly – below the chin, on our foreheads, dangling on our ears etc. And ever notice that these non-compliant ones seem to have the most and loudest chatter of all. Some business places fail to provide any type of sanitation stations, chief among which are Chinese ‘restaurants’ of all places. They are chiefly responsible for bringing the world to its knees yet those here seem not to care about preventing the spread of this Chinese born pandemic. Travel to the public market on a Saturday. Vendors openly chatter and sell their products without masks or with poorly made or poorly worn masks. The Police are failing us. When arrests are made for breaching these protocols only to be followed by a release of the law-breakers, then they, the Police, contribute directly to the spread of Covid-19. Brace yourselves Antigua for the second wave of this killer disease.

  2. This is the thing… The reports that state that there’s no reported cases of covid is a good and bad thing.

It’s good to know clinically where we stand, but on the other hand, it can be deceptive, as the virus can still be in the community, but persons are either asymptotic, or not sick enough to be taken to the hospital.

We have to not let our guard down, and continue to be aggressive in this.

There are too many places where I see persons congregating, not social distancing, not a care in the world.

  3. I have read the news reports concerning this latest positive Covid 19 case and what puzzles me is that no reason is given as to why the person was included in a batch of samples. It is alleged elsewhere that the person is asymptomatic. Additionally, there is apparently no travel history. It is evident that the authorities are trying to determine where the person contracted the virus from so the case was most likely not a result of previous contact tracing linked to any other known case. So what triggered the testing of this individual???
