The Ministry of the Environment over the weekend began preparing for the installation of over 90 garbage bins in the city of St. John’s.
Environment Minister, Molwyn Joseph and his technicians took to the streets of St Johns on Sunday where they marked out over 75 of the 90 plus sites where litter bins will be erected across the City.
The new Environment Act passed in the Lower House last week makes provisions for stiff fines and penalties to be handed out to individuals and companies who wantonly litter and dump illegally anywhere across the country,
An assessment was done by the Development Control Authority, Central Board of Health, St John Development Corporation and Ministry of Health Technicians as well as Public Works.
Based on the assessment a map was created, allowing the officials to mark the areas.

Please select nice looking litter bins that make the city look clean and organized rather than ugly bins. Both Singapore and Hong Kong have good examples of nice looking littler bins to use in public spaces.
Also, please make sure the that the trash is picked up from the bins regularly and that high water pressure cleaners are used from time to time to clean the trash bins, so that they do it become smelly.
Anyways, this is a great idea and I support it 100000%.
