The Ministry of Works will undertake an Audit of all Central Government Owned Motor Vehicles during the period of Monday 19 June to Friday 30% June 2023.
This will be held daily at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The Ministry is encouraging all persons who are driving a Central Government- owned Motor Vehicle to report to the Sir. Vivian Richards Stadium, at the above- mentioned times and dates assigned.
Kindly be advised that ANY vehicle that has not reported for the audit will be denied both fuel and maintenance in the first instance and the repossession of the Government Motor Vehicle thereafter.
The Ministry of Works encourages each department to cooperate fully with the audit team and thanks you in advance for your full cooperation.

It is full time the government should take such actions…. There are too many persons out there living light and smelling sweet off of Gov’t owned assets and then the tax payers bear the irresponsible burden
They should have a listing of all Government owned vehicles by Department. Set it up by departments daily and check off all vehicles that comes through the audited lines.By doing so you then be able to pinpoint those vehicles that evaded the Audit. Then go after those culprits.

HOW MUCH DOES THE USE OF GOVERNMENT VEHICLES OTHER THAN OFFICIAL WORK RELATED DUTIES COST THE TAXPAYERS?
IN OTHER COUNTRIES, GOVERNMENT VEHICLES ARE CHECKED OUT AT THE START OF THEIR WORK DAY AND RETURNED AT THE END. EMPLOYEES HAVE TO BE USE THEIR OWN VEHICLES TO GET TO AND FROM WORK AND CANNOT USE THEM TO GIVE ANYONE A RIDE LIKE WHAT HAPPENS IN ANTIGUA ON A DAILY BASIS, ,eg: ride to and from work, drop off and pickup at School when they should be working and don’t forget the Police ” checking” women on the street when they are on duty in their vehicles

I have been hearing this now for many years. Since Mr. Pilgrim was the PS he held an Audit. I have stated in many of my comments about the Carpool, that it is a Cesspool of Corruption. And it is not corruption by politicians, but by civil servants. And they are very bold when they do that. If you want a cheap Backhoe or Excavator, just contact one of the drivers of these equipment and they will make arrangement with you to come on Saturday or Sunday and you will have to pay them cash. Engineers that oversee inspecting your construction will provide private services to you. Corruption is from top to bottom. Poor Maria, I hope you can handle them. And then you have the use of vehicles for private jobs or just to transport a group of church members on Sunday. Any Asset of the State will be used from time to time for private causes. It’s a culture you cannot change.
Just last Saturday I listened to the PM on the Browne and Browne Show, when discussing the rate of our Tax Collection. And he agrees and knows that our auditors at IRD and the Custom Department are corrupt and colluding with certain importers. And that people are not paying their fair share of taxes. It is in our culture to evade paying taxes. And the people who have to oversee all our taxes are collect do not have the integrity to do so. During the UPP time, you had Everett Christian who was placed there by Harold to close this gap, but he was seen as a pit bull stifling the business community. He meant good, but his hands were also very dirty. Corruption is our way of life and it will take generations to change that, if ever.
