The workshop is being held in person at the Trade Winds Hotel.

The event brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including government officials, technology experts, and representatives from financial institutions, to discuss innovative strategies for enhancing financial inclusion through digital platforms.

Hon. Melford Nicholas, Minister of ICTs, opened the proceedings by acknowledging the pressing need for digital transformation in government and the private sector.

Cleveland Thomas, the ITU representative, emphasized the significance of digital assets in promoting financial inclusion, particularly through initiatives such as the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank’s D-Cash program.

He remarked on the transformative potential of digital financial services, noting that over 2 billion adults globally remain unbanked, while 1.6 billion have mobile phones. “By bringing the unbanked into the formal economy, we unlock new avenues for growth and prosperity,” he stated.

The workshop will focus on key areas, including the establishment of a National DFS Security Task Force, the sharing of security standards, and a comprehensive review of past initiatives aimed at strengthening the digital financial services ecosystem in Antigua and Barbuda.

Participants will engage in discussions to implement recommendations and best practices for securing mobile payment systems.

Minister Nicholas highlighted the need to adapt swiftly to the changing landscape of digital services, particularly in light of the increasing demand from the public.

The workshop represents a critical step toward fostering an inclusive financial environment that meets the needs of vulnerable populations and supports economic development across the region.

  1. All this window dressing to cover the financial rip off of the treasury won’t cut it.
Untie the ONDCP and the FSRC hands and allow them to function once more like they did when the UPP was in office and all the ALP get rich scheme stop in it’s track, kernel croft See’s all the money movement but he is constantly sent on trips to travel the world and by extension aquire largesse in travel allowances, a state capture I tell you, but one day the chains will break.

    • @Eldread if you were to examine the accusations against now deceased Leroy King, all of his infractions, which he later pleaded guilty to, occurred during the UPP tenure (2005 and beyond). Try and remember it was Badwin Spencer who stated his willingness to sacrifice his political future for Stanford

  2. @tell him: ok so when Gaston and others was paid on national television by Stanford it wasn’t Lester bird time, even liat was destroyed by the ALP instructing it’s ALP comrade board members to sell out liat route or logistics to Caribbean sun Stanford airlines, killing liat early morning flight to Puerto Rico and back in the night, that time when Baldwin wanted to show business confidence in Stanford that was stupid, but what o like he wasn’t stupid as Gaston and molwyn that took the monies over the television, when Stanford stated he will offer millions to rebuild grace farm Spencer didn’t accept because he knew it was a trap, the Gail christian being a female shouted in an orgasm fashion bring the money and come like a prostitute.
I am not here to back UPP I am here for country and both government and opposition will feel my lashes.

  3. @Eldead you are the one who argued things were handled better under the UPP. Try and remember that those moneys went to charities set up by the two MP’s you mentioned. Compare that to BS who later admitted, after US law officials accused him of selling diplomatic assignments, that moneys were deposited into his personal bank account (Think back to the John Ashe saga). This fact is stated in the US indictment against Ashe. This is the first and only time we (A&B) have experienced a PM being accused, by the US, of having his hands in the proverbial cookie jar. BS argued his account was used to hold money for the UPP party (money laundering). How does this relate to the FSRC? The US indictment mentioned it due to the family connection involving John Ashe (the suggestion, wrongly or rightly, that he could easily sway his brother).

You may also remember UPP MP’s being gifted buses in their own name (Dr Cort was smart enough to do it the right way and have them instead donate to a charity). Again I only remind you of these things because of your strange argument that under UPP things were better managed
