As long as we have a government system that prevent any public servant to be fired for non-performance they will continue to give substandard service. Why not send him on early retirement like you did with Mr. Martin at APUA. The IMF playbook is clear. Retrench the public servant by 40%. They will provide the loan for this. Just like what they did for Barbados. You have to bite the bullet at one point and deal with the over bloated system once and for all. It makes no sense kicking the can down the road. Which government will have the political balls to do so? There is no other way. Trump was elected and the first thing he did was instructed Elon Musk to cut the fat in the system. This is nothing more and nothing less than an IMF program that the USA is in. Right Sizing is another term that is used. But they all mean the same.
The private sector is dealing with this as well. Especially in the restaurant industry. They are keeping the payroll low and waiters and waitresses will have to double up to serve customers. I travelled lately to a far away country and was engaging with the waitress and waitresses about their pay. And they told me they only get paid commission of the day. No fixed salary. Therefore they have skin in the game to ensure customers come into he restgaurant and that they are served satisfactory. Here in Antigua the waitress.waitressses do not have skin in the game. Their pay just depend on showing up to work. And whether or not they provide good service is another thing. Now I don’t want to suggest we go to that extreme but we need to ensure that the worker have some skin in the game to ensure the business does well. Why is it they demand severance? The system of awarding and rewarding workers need to change to the benefit of both Employee and Employers.
