Minister of Social and Urban Transformation, Rawdon Turner, marked International Women’s Day 2025 by emphasizing the importance of rights, equality, and empowerment for women and girls worldwide.

This year’s theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”, serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to create a world where women and girls have the opportunity to thrive without discrimination.

In his address, Turner underscored his commitment to accelerating progress towards gender equality through policies and programs that empower women across all sectors of society.

“We must work together to break barriers and build a future where no woman is left behind,” he said.

Rawdon Turner highlighted the need for enhanced economic opportunities, social support systems, and initiatives that enable women to fulfill their potential.

He also expressed his admiration for the strength, resilience, and leadership of women in Antigua and Barbuda, noting that their contributions inspire change both locally and globally.

“I remain dedicated to championing efforts that uplift and empower women in every aspect of life,” Turner added, urging continued collaboration to foster a brighter, more inclusive future.

The statement was met with positive feedback from local women’s groups, who praised the Minister’s dedication to gender equality and the empowerment of women in the Caribbean.

  2. We need more political leaders who speak out for women’s rights like Minister Turner. His message shows that gender equality is not just a women’s issue—it’s a global issue.

  3. Powerful words from Minister Turner today! Gender equality should be a priority every day, not just on International Women’s Day. Let’s continue to work toward a more inclusive future.

  4. We need more policymakers like Minister Turner who not only talk the talk but also walk the walk when it comes to empowering women.

  5. Kudos to Minister Turner for his ongoing support for gender equality. We need to ensure that women have equal opportunities in all areas of life.

  6. Can someone explain to me, in what way are women treated unfairly to the point where gender equality is a headline topic? A woman don’t need a good reason to file divorce and destroy her family, she can just be bored and the court will reward her at the expense of her husband’s pocket for basically being selfish. Women can work in the same department with men, do less physical labor and still get the same salary as her male counterparts, women get statutory and maternity leave with full pay. Court system tend to be more lenient on a women than men when it comes to the same crimes. A woman can commit paternity fraud and get away with it and the list goes on. These benefits are not a big deal to me but the request for gender equality is definitely delusional bcuz women surpass equality at this moment and is more on superiority level. Wth is really going on in this world
