No major surge of Covid-19 after Carnival 2022, says minister

CABINET NOTES:

The Minister of Health reported that there is NO major surge of Covid-19 after Carnival 2022.

He concluded that 57 infections serve as evidence that boosters are working and encouraged Antiguans and Barbudans to get vaccinated and boosted.

The Minister drew the Cabinet’s attention to large-scale events before that led to as many as 250 infections following the events.

The policies of the Gaston Browne-led administration are clearly justifiable and helpful in the fight against Covid-19.

  1. Oh please! Stop gaslighting the people.
The CDC has recently acknowledged natural immunity –.that’s what is really causing any decrease in infection rate. Those Wuhan strain vaccines cannot prevent Omicron or any of it’s sub variants from infecting people. Antibodies in the blood cannot prevent a respiratory infection — and that is all you get from these vaccine. All evidence now shows that boosting INCREASES ones risk of becoming infected. Upper airway antibodies are what’s stopping infection / transmission — and that only happens with naturally acquired immunity.

luckily the strain of covid is mild

  3. Sir Minister, with all due respect, your conclusions cannot be trusted in the absence of further info since there are many other factors that could have resulted in the decrease in dashboard cases. E.g. What percentage of persons actually got a booster and how many boosters and how long ago? Omicron is mild so what percentage of people are actually visiting doctors and getting tested? For each person on the dashboard, are there 20? 50? 100? unreported cases? What was the weather like during carnival? Hot with lots of UV to kill viruses at outdoor events? How many tourists travelled during summer vs during winter? Have you noticed yet that there is always a surge during the cold winter tourist season? What percentage of the population already has natural immunity including from previous low or asymptomatic cases? Historically previous pandemics eased off naturally after 2-3 years or so… What timeframe are we at right now as we speak? What is the current dominant variant circulating? Did the pre-carnival boosters even target that variant effectively? It would be highly inaccurate to give credit to boosters without first addressing these unanswered questions. Finally, given that some studies show increased heart risk etc. from boosters would it not be best to only have doctors and patients decide on a case by case basis whether they should be taken instead of encouraging the general public to run out and take them with no additional reflection?.E g. an 80 year old might be helped by one whereas for a 20 year old there would be no significant benefit. Looking forward to more detailed info in the future. Congrats though on some of the previous public health measures. Some were indeed beneficial.

  4. Well sir, it certainly seems Antigua had a miraculous anti-covid ‘shield’ over carnival, as other islands tested thousands and had triple digit positive people, those islands too had good uptake on boosters so… Is it you haven’t tested extensively? Unless people in hospital it doesn’t really matter? Election coming, covid long gone, A&B land of opportunity for investors & self-enrichment?
