Minister for Housing and Works, the Hon. Maria Browne, has firmly addressed opposition claims surrounding the recent vehicle procurement matter connected to the ministry.
During an interview with ABS Television, Minister Browne clarified that vehicles were purchased without the necessary approvals, the issue was promptly corrected, and all 30 vehicles were returned when identified.
She stressed that there was no violation by the Ministry of Works, and that attempts to link the matter to the ongoing Customs and duty-free matter were inaccurate and politically motivated.
“It’s very unfortunate that the opposition has sought to twist what was a simple administrative correction,” she said. “They have tried to tie two unrelated matters together — but there is no truth to those claims.”
Minister Browne reiterated that she has remained transparent and accountable throughout the process.
The Opposition United Progressive Party has staged a number of failed protests, motorcades, and public meetings calling for the minister’s resignation.
“I have done nothing wrong. I continue to serve with integrity, and I will not resign over false claims. Anyone seeking answers has every right to request documentation through the Information Commissioner. We have nothing to hide.”
Minister Browne also confirmed that stronger auditing and tracking practices are already underway. The ministry is conducting a comprehensive vehicle audit; labelling government vehicles for clearer identification; and ensuring cars go to officers who require them for field duties, not administrative staff.
“Everything happens for a reason,” she noted. “If this situation strengthens procurement across government and closes loopholes, then the country is better for it.”
Minister Browne reaffirmed her commitment to delivering on behalf of the people who elected her.
“I remain focused, I remain committed, and I continue to represent the people of St. John’s Rural East and the nation with honesty and purpose.”

This female is really clueless. I have heard people say it before but this article confirms it to me.
Wasn’t it the Finance Minister, who is also her husband the one who brought this issue to the public’s attention?
Was it the opposition who brought out this SCANDAL?
Isn’t the Ministry of P.W.D. responsible for government vehicles?
An INDEPENDENT ENQUIRY or an INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION is what the majority of the public wants to find out who is/are guilty or who is/are not guilty.
The majority of the public is of the opinion that the Finance Minster, who is also this female husband, is a LIAR. He is not trusted, so get that straight in your clueless head.
I for one am not saying that ‘you have done wrong’ but I beg to differ when you state that you are serving with ‘integrity’.
Call the Independent Enquiry or Independent Investigation now.
Maria your truth is not the only truth. Open the people’s books to an Independent Forensic Audit and let the chips fall where they may.
ABS interviewing Maria about corruption is the same as Fox News interviewing Trump about his crimes while president. Why hasn’t she held a press conference since her husband brought this to the public’s attention? If she is so full of integrity, face questions from unbias media personnel. I know Murdoch would love to ask you some questions.
The political theater in this country needs to end. These people parade as paragons of virtue in public but don’t actually walk the walk. If she did, this wouldn’t be how we hear from her regarding this issue.
