Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez has criticized the opposition’s approach during recent parliamentary debates, calling out their lack of preparedness and engagement on critical national issues. Speaking on Pointe FM’s Browne and Browne Show, Fernandez described their actions as disappointing, particularly given the significance of the discussions at hand.
“Last year, they claimed that they didn’t have enough time to prepare,” Fernandez said. “This year, they had the time, but they weren’t prepared.”
He highlighted an incident involving Barbuda MP Hon. Trevor Walker, who admitted to attending the session without his notes. “Walker says he came without his notes,” Fernandez remarked.
Fernandez also pointed to a statement from the Leader of the Opposition during the budget debate. “The Prime Minister mentioned that the Leader of the Opposition said to him, ‘You could wrap up,’” he stated.
The minister noted that water and roads remain major concerns for citizens, yet the opposition failed to challenge the relevant ministers who presented on these topics. “The irony is that the two ministers responsible for water and roads made presentations, and not one of them could have gotten up to challenge or question them,” Fernandez said.
He also criticized their debate strategy. “If you have questions on tourism, for example, you should speak before the minister of tourism and say, ‘When you get up, I want you to answer this, this, and that,’” Fernandez explained. “But if you wait until after I speak, I have no chance to rebut. That is what I think is important.”
Fernandez expressed disappointment in what he viewed as inconsistent behavior from the opposition. “When anything good happens, they say it’s because of the technicians in the ministry. But when anything bad happens, the minister must take responsibility,” he said. “You can’t have it both ways.”
The minister urged for more meaningful and constructive participation from opposition members, emphasizing the importance of robust parliamentary debate in addressing national concerns.

AW, shut up, Max!
You are a shame and embarrassment to people, even not so decent ones. You sound like a beaten puppy dog in captivity yelping for a feed.
UPP OPPOSITION Party is FULL.of excuses. Either They did not receive it on time or They receive it on time but but NOT prepared to debate.
Richard out smart His Colleagues. He make sure He debated the budget. Serpent and Shugy have done DISSERVICE to Their Constituents. These never debated the BUDGET.
We need an OPPOSITION party in Antigua. DNA might be the answer.
Mr. Knight is a BUYOUT . He is back with UPP. Observer gave Jim one more chance. Not to curse UPP anymore
Mr. Knight you’re a PUSSY. Talks no Actions.
Max, I wanted so much to hear what you had to say about tourism. It is you who shame me. You left the Ministry unattended to go lay wager. Your pay should be deducted.
They’re only there for the pomp and circumstance. Simply to wear nice suits and to be bacchanalian when able.
I’m convinced that they’re not interested in doing the people’s work. They won and are entitled to a monthly salary as such. Lamentably, that’s all we’re gonna get from them.
Was Max even there? They wanted the opposition to talk first so they could lambast them. Everything ABLP does is for politics. UPP simply refused to take the bait. Pringle and Richard did it all. If ABLP supporters don’t care to hear how their money is spent then no need for them to hear from UPP.
Max tell us about Antigua Airways?
We want a thorough investigation into the drowning of the Africans off St. Kitts who were being smuggled out of Antigua after arriving from Africa on the fake Antigua Airways?
Tell us were you involved, in the negotiations between LIAT 20 and Air Peace.
Zackie , You are sounding so DAMN dumb as usual ….Your Friend BRIXTONIAN went into hiding ??.
After the last session of parliament, it is alledged that BRIXTONIAN packed his suitcase and hightailed it back to his adopted country Britannia for an extended stay. Also alledged is that a phone call was made to Gaston Browne apologizing for past behavour and critisizm. Hoping to see you back in the ABLP fold shortly Sir.😅😅😅
