Sports and Education Minister Daryll Matthew has expressed deep sorrow over the fatal stabbing of teenage cricketer Vonde Bowers in Grays Farm on Tuesday night.
Bowers, a member of the national Under-19 team, had recently returned from representing Antigua and Barbuda in the UK.
Matthew described the 19-year-old as a rising sports talent and said his death was “a devastating reminder of the painful cost of violence.”
He urged young people to reject violence and “choose life, choose purpose, choose peace.”
Police are continuing their investigation.

So when will the police release a statement
The young man’s untimely demise is a personal vendetta of some sort.
They have been two known Ghettos in Wadadli since I was born ie Point and Mud, you can now add a few more to the list like Ottos etc.These are places where bringing up youths in these days are most difficult, since most corners and abandoned houses are now hangout spots for these youths and even some adult males to just sit, smoke, gamble, harass, influence, threatened, demands and YouTube videos.
Imagine a kid growing up in this environment, trying real hard to do good and focus on the right things, while at the same time fearful of bypassing these ares everyday, threats and name calling, while a single mom works hard daily to provide and protect.
The possible result especially without a strong father in the home is ending up at that same corner or because of perhaps jealousy end up like this young talented youngster.
It is too easy in this country to take another’s life, 1735 is to be the harshest punishment provided, but it’s just not working nobody scared of going there, that’s why taking a life can be done without even thinking of what to come afterwards.
Justice to the family of this young man and not forgetting Chantel.
So so sad. How can you just kill someone like this. Cold hearted
