Education Minister Daryll Matthew has condemned a troubling series of altercations involving female students in Antigua and Barbuda.
On Monday and Tuesday, videos emerged on social media showing students from two schools engaging in physical fights, while peers recorded the incidents.
Minister Matthew expressed deep concern about these events, highlighting the need for a safe and respectful environment in schools.
He reassured the public that the Ministry of Education is taking proactive steps to address the issue and is committed to fostering a positive and harmonious atmosphere for all students.

LOOKS LIKE PARENTS SENDING THERE KIDS TO SCHOOL TO DIE.
I thought you told the public the schools are safe? That you consulted with all,”stakeholders?” Your deputy director said that. Guess she lied. Schools are not safe. Hey,you better think seriously, because in the sweltering heat in classrooms, tempers are sure to be short. You made big talk about AC in schools the failed to deliver, as usual.
Another joker this one.
Schools can be very safe, either by Ministry of Education (government) measures or Principals and teachers in classrooms. If the students (male or female) are unruly is not because of the pertinent authorities. One of the reasons might be the unhappiness or conflicting environment the students are subjected to; it could either be at home situations, peer or friends situations and more so the level of stress, bullying, hurt and anger they are dealing with; especially due to all the events that have taken place and still are, all over the country. Minister Chet Green just today, posted on his facebook page the importance of looking closely at mental health at all levels and in all areas of our community, starting with the household/homes. It should be read by many if not by all. This matter of mental health, not the stigmatized one, but the wholistic one that influences behavior, discipline, desire to study and excel, respect and fitting rightly into their environment; touches everyone; from our very small children to our senior citizens. We see some steps already taken by government that could be considered a drop in the bucket compared to the escalating disturbances seeing around and also in schools, but it’s a starting point. So much more need to be done. Starting at home – there, parent(s) should be projecting more love, giving more guidance, discipline, more encouragement with support, instilling a sense of commitment and self- respect etc.. The list might be long but these are basic principles to be put in place if not already and should not be so difficult. What about community centers around the islands organizing meetings for parents, led by elected politicians, for lack of a better word right now, discussing and or polishing these matters? Family town halls?. They may lead to the core of the problems that need to be addressed in order of priority and in the scope they should be handled. The involvement of the Ministry of Education could be crucial because the matter affects schools. Putting blame on the Ministry or elsewhere is not the answer to what we all have been witnessing for some time now, including the so called gang movements (where elders are involved). Volunteers to assist in these matters for the betterment of all, our students and our lives should be welcome.
So what are u going to do about it when THIER faces were clear as day in the videos. Suspend or expel?
Dem kids aint fraud no police.
Security need to patrol the school compound, let their presence felt..
Everything begins at home, so let’s start with the home!
Parents please be careful of your words and actions because you child/ children are watching 👀
Heads of schools need to give a stern warning to all their students that the fights that we witnessed on those videos would not be tolerated anymore. It is time that the principals send a stern warning to kids and parents that further violation could result in immediate expulsion from school. We have to address these hostilities quickly and succinctly and bring order back into school life. And these orders must also be effective once the kids are in their uniforms whether be at the bus station or on the road.
If y’all think that the home is to blame for everything you are so delusional. People send their good children to school and before they leave, they have already been exposed to porn, and levels of violence that they are not exposed in their homes. We seem to still view life from the lens of the 70’s or 80’s where when we did not have cable. News flash, children have access to everything now and that’s the difference between us and them – access! Parents were still working as nurses or police or other jobs that called for them to be out of the home at odd hours just the same like today. Sadly, we do not live in the same environment and children are exposed to all kinds of things both inside and outside of the home. The truth is we all have a responsibility but unfortunately we all feel comfortable blaming somebody else and not addressing some.of.these issues directly.
