Minimum Wage

The Antigua and Barbuda Minimum Wage Advisory Committee (MWAC) will hold its first meeting on Monday, November 4, 2025, to begin its review of the country’s national minimum wage.

The virtual session will be chaired by Labour Commissioner Eltonia Anthony-David, alongside Deputy Commissioner Pascal Kentish.

The Hon. Sir Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin, Attorney General and Minister of Labour, will provide brief remarks to formally open the meeting.

The committee will receive its terms of reference, which charge the group with investigating working conditions and recommending a minimum basic wage to the Minister of Labour. This recommendation will then be reviewed by the Minister and Cabinet before a final decision is made. The MWAC is composed of 18 members, with six representatives each for employers, employees, and the government.

During the inaugural meeting, each member is permitted to invite an alternate representative to participate.

The last adjustment to the minimum wage was in January 2023, when it was increased from EC$8.20 to EC$9.00 per hour.

Research has proven that wrong in multiple cases and countries. Min wages does not have a noticeable effect on inflation.

Now the min wage is $9.00 per hr which is $380 per week before deductions. A tradesman min wage is $150 per day which is $750 per week and skill men would charge $1000 per week. hotel workers in some cases makes $13.50 per hours already plus service charge which can see them take home $800 a week. One month of rent is more then one week of wake wage in the best case where you have a cheap house for $400 per month that’s the cheapest price I know personally. The min wage can barely get 3 days of a labourers time.

Even from the point of view that the in wage was fine ABST risen, 2 almost 3 years inflation, the increase for vehicle registration plus more I may not even know about. Tell me Who can live on min wage? People already work multiple jobs to make the a liveable amount. I believe should be at least $13.50 should be the min wage.
