Pothole somewhere in Antigua

As residents continue to gripe over the state of the nations roads, the governments has made “more than $20 miilion” available to the Public Works Department for roadworks.

In his Cabinet Notes, government spokesman Lionel “Max” Hurst said that as part of the road improvement efforts, Public Works has decided to station night crews in hopes of getting work done when there is a low volume of traffic. The department will focus on Sutherlands, Coolidge and Bethesda on Wednesday and Thursday nights. However, “on the weekend the night crew will move on to other communities repairing potholes.”

Additionally, Hurst noted that the process of paving concrete roads in West Palm Beach continues, and new surfaces are being laid in Mount Pleasant, Cassada Gardens near the government’s workshop on Factory Road, as well as in Golden Grove.

Meanwhile, drains and gutters are under construction on Jim Daddy Road, with the promise that the paving of the road will “follow immediately after.”

The Director , the Permanent Secretary and the Deputy Director of Public Works were all invited to give an update on the road repair program on Wednesday.

  1. I’m glad for the road works, but I do hope that the roads are constructed properly. Already There are roads that have just been redone in some communities and the roads are beginning to wharp. Seaview Farm, and Agatha E Goodwin street are 2 examples. PLEASE, PLEASE do the job properly guys.

Also, I think “Jim Daddy Road” is called Mahico Drive if memory serves me

  2. It’s really hard to believe anything Max Hurst has to say. He had been coming on the radio faithfully, every week for the past 2 years. We went to the moon and back — from 4 lane highways back to reality with our regular 2 lanes. They don’t seem to have a real plan and that is concerning!

  3. Parham has quite a few roads that have people driving on side walks because roads are so bad. Helppppppppp!!!!!!

  4. Mr. Michael Browne. Buckleys IS part of your constituency. We voted for you at least I did and I have not seen you at all in my area. WE NEED ROADS TOO.

  5. Definitely our roads need refurbishing but.At the same time the minister of Public Work need to enforce that no cars should be found parkex on the side of the roads….. The roads are too narrow and these parked cats are causing serious obstruction with the flow of traffic…..
