A Middle Eastern airline is in talks with the Antigua and Barbuda government to repurpose the old V.C. Bird International Airport Terminal Building, aiming for the facility to be operational by January 2025.
Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez shared the news in a recent interview, explaining that the airline intends to use the terminal to bring its own carrier to Antigua. “We’re in early discussions, but we’d like this partnership to come to fruition as early as next year,” he said.
Minister Fernandez also announced the return of weekly flights by German airline Condor, marking an important step for Antigua’s connection to Europe.
“This opens additional gateways through Germany, boosting our reach within Europe,” he noted.
Highlighting the tourism sector’s strong performance over the past year, Fernandez pointed out record-breaking visitor numbers both by air and sea, with cruise passenger arrivals nearing 900,000 and air arrivals expected to fall between 325,000 and 350,000.

That is very good, I really pray and hope it works out for best. For the peoples sake. A little more bread can never hurt. All the best Mp Fernandez.
Can’t Antigua government make the old airport wing into whatever they want it to be and stop having foreign investors take our property come on Mon ….. yes there’s a bigger picture here but can’t you do it yourself gosh. 🙄🙄🙄
Another failed project in the pipelines. Give us a break. Fernandez need to clean his house.
Imagine the old airport in 2025 will be revamped by an International Airline with a facility from the 80’s that has no proper Ramp Service area , no Jetbridge, No Baggage Service Carousels . A building that would need a complete overhaul structure wise to meet standards that will be pleasant to customers from so far away.
I still believe my suggestion to make this terminal the LIAT 20/20 Terminal is much better. This will signify the HOME OF LIAT. Having its own terminal. And all of its plane can be parked righht there They will have their own immigration and Custom. Any intransit passenger will be shuttled to the arriving hall of the new terminal which is downstair anyway. I hope Mr. Fernandez and the PM are giving it some thoughts.
