Hotelier Andrew Michelin has announced an ambitious expansion plan that includes 500 new rooms across the Caribbean, a 100-room buildout in Antigua and Barbuda, and the launch of a regional talent-matching platform aimed at strengthening the hospitality workforce.
Speaking on the Browne and Browne show, Michelin said he has decided to “roll” forward with new investments rather than slow down, outlining a strategy that will add hundreds of rooms “in my style” across multiple islands. He said the next phase includes a 100-room project in Antigua and Barbuda and additional developments elsewhere in the region as part of a broader brand expansion.
Michelin also revealed the creation of a Caribbean-wide hospitality talent hub, describing it as a central platform to match workers with job opportunities across multiple islands. He said the model functions “almost like a dating site,” pairing specific skills with properties in need of those roles. The system is being developed under the name Caribbean Hotel Services and will be supported by new recruitment and human-resource capacity.
To manage the expansion, Michelin said a project manager has already been appointed, with plans for marketing and social-media outreach to build a strong regional talent pool. He said the initiative will allow Antiguan workers to take advantage of opportunities across the Caribbean while also giving his properties access to trained staff able to maintain consistent service standards.
Michelin noted that his existing boutique hotels have found success by keeping operations simple, working with local carpenters, maintaining a strong emphasis on landscaping, and focusing on consistent quality. He said the goal is to replicate that approach in new markets while creating a scalable pipeline of trained Caribbean hospitality professionals.
During the programme, Prime Minister Gaston Browne praised Michelin as a pioneer in the boutique-hotel space and said the government supports his expansion and talent-development efforts.
