Antigua Barbuda Labour Party candidate for All Saints West Michael Browne has said that the country is so safe that residents can sleep with their doors open at nights.
“But when you look at Antigua and Barbuda compared to our neighbours you can sleep with your door open…you can walk down the road in peace,” he said adding that there has only been one murder for the year.
Browne who is education minister was speaking on his party’s performance in the area of crime at a public meeting in Thwaites Corner last night.
He said despite there being an alleged serial killer on the loose “he soon done.”
Browne told supporters that crime is much less now than it was a few years ago.
“There was a time in Antigua and Barbuda you couldn’t even come out your house. Women were afraid to stay in their homes by themselves (because) all kinda mask man ah walk up and down the place.”
He said the public safety minister Steadroy Cutie Benjamin must be given credit for equipping the police with the necessary tools to fight crime.
Benjamin also spoke to the issue of crime during the same campaign event echoing the sentiments of his colleague.
“We have now brought Antigua and Barbuda to a safe place,” Benjamin said.
Antigua and Barbuda’s murder rate soared to 20 last year, an occurrence blamed on turf wars, drugs, and gangs.
He said the so-called vampire killer will be recaptured.

Depends on where you live. I live in a violence-free community. I have on many occasions pulled my door in without locking it. Came back home and as expected no one broke in. I wouldn’t say the same for grays green tho.
