SOURCE: MONEY CONTROL- Mehul Choksi, the co-accused in the PNB fraud scam, has told a Mumbai court that he is not in condition to visit India to face the trial in the case.

According to a report by the Economic Times, Choksi, who is currently living in Belgium, has conveyed to the court that he is suffering from ‘blood cancer.’

In his special plea filed in the Mumbai court, Mehul Choksi claimed that he is suffering from chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

In his plea, the ET report said, Choksi has submitted his medical reports as well. He has also filed an opinion by a doctor based in Antwerp that Choksi is ‘100% incapable’ to travel.

An official quoted by ET said that Choksi should return home as there are several world class doctors who can treat him without any issue.

Previously, Choksi had claimed that he was suffering from mental health issues after alleged kidnapping in Antigua. In fact, Choksi had claimed that government officials from India had attempted the abduction.

India has been probing the $2billion bank fraud and has agencies have sought Choksi’s custody. He and his nephew Nirav Modi are the accused in the case.

Choksi is now a citizen of Antigua and is currently living in Belgium for cancer treatment. Nirav Modi, on the other hand, is lodged in a British jail for over six years now.

New Delhi has been trying for his extradition without any success.

  1. So try him in Belgium. What ever you do get it done quickly like he doesn’t have much time left anyway

  2. Personally I don’t even believe this mam has any of the money that he allegedly stole. He is now old and barely alive. India still have the man on their agenda? A half dead man? What are you hoping that he would die in jail? Is that even payback? Seems you are more interested in punishing a man than getting the banks money back. Am I wrong or am I right?

  3. Sounds like Mr. Choksi is trying to avoid facing the reality by using health Issues as an excuse. It’s wild how he’s caught up in such a huge scam and now wants to skip out on dealing with it. Like, he’s clearly in a tough spot health-wise, but it feels like he’s just trying to stall the process. I get the health stuff, but if he’s really guilty, it shouldn’t let him off the hook. btw, i wonder which doctor he paid for these results. Choksi know wherehe has remaining assets. he’s not a fool

  4. Choksi’s so good at dodging justice, he should get a medal! Now he’s playing the ‘I’m too sick to go back’ card? Come on, man, the only thing he’s suffering from is a bad case of guilt!

  5. Choksi’s health must be the only thing deteriorating faster than his reputation. If he’s really that sick, he should just do us all a favor and stay in Belgium… behind bars. I mean, isnt he dying any way

  6. Some way, some how. I guess this whole Mehul case must come to an end. I just hope he wordks things with the people have wronged before he dies. lets not take a wrong road here Choksi

  7. The tales of two Indians …one running from the law and the other living like a king . Can anyone guess who is the other one
