Celestial Five Shine Bright at 2025 Queen of Carnival Contestant Presentation
The road to the 2025 Miss Antigua Barbuda Queen of Carnival officially began last evening with the elegant presentation of the five young women vying for the crown under this year’s radiant theme: “Celestial – Illuminate, Inspire, Reign.”
Held with flair and anticipation, the event was co-hosted by Queen of Carnival Committee Co-Chairs Shenique Barry and Raynel Carroll, who introduced both the structure of the July 20th show and the delegates who will compete for one of Carnival’s most prestigious titles.
“This theme reflects the inner brilliance and guiding light within each of our delegates,” Barry said in her opening remarks. “It’s about power, elegance, and influence—qualities that shine beyond the stage.”
The competition will feature five segments: Interview, Swimwear, Performing Talent, Costume (featuring elements of light to tie in with the celestial theme), and Evening Wear—each crafted to showcase the beauty, intellect, and cultural expression of the contestants.
Before introducing the 2025 contenders, Carroll took a moment to welcome Desrie Markham, the reigning Queen of Carnival, who has served with “poise, power, and passion” since her 2024 win.
Then came the grand unveiling of this year’s “Celestial Five”:
- Kia Kirwan – Miss ACB Caribbean
- Kaaliyha Guiste – Miss Antigua Masonary Products
- Danijha Simon – Miss Furniture Gallery
- Abigail Piper – Miss Board Walk Casino
- Asheila Pluck – Miss Antigua Port Authority
Each delegate stepped forward to be paired with her sponsor and drew lots to determine her stage order for the July 20th show, with the reigning queen assisting in the process.
The evening also acknowledged the dedication of the Queen of Carnival Committee, including Alex Rhodes, Arkeem Francis, Anandi Carroll, Colette Edwards, Collet Gordon, Janelle Saunders, Nadine McDougal, Therese Mills, and Tnaska Weston, who are working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring the production to life.
As anticipation builds for the big night, fans are also encouraged to follow the journey in the upcoming behind-the-scenes feature, “Crowned: The Making of a Carnival Queen.”
With grace and determination, the Celestial Five are ready to illuminate the stage and inspire the nation. The countdown to Carnival is officially on.

As with everything else these days, consumers/patrons will be offered less for more! Five carnival queen contestants might be okay for Barbuda’s Caribana, but for Antigua’s so-called Greatest Summer Festival??? FIVE????

Your point is so valid! I wonder what are we really celebrating around these times. All I see is naked and vulgar people on the street. They don’t even know what to do for themselves. Carnival suppose to be a celebration but what are we celebrating right now? I need to know now!
What is carnival really? A celebration of what? Think about it. Are we celebrating life, slavery, freedom from captivity, immorality, hooliganism, vulgarity, nakedness, death?? Every year at a certain time we spend all this time and money preparing for carnival. We go fetting, drinking, dancing, fight with one another, sometimes kill, drive recklessly injuring innocent people .. and we call it celebrating carnival.. But what is carnival?????
