Daryl Matthew will replace embattled senator Michael Freeland in the Upper House, a source within the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has confirmed.
Matthew has already been selected to replace Member of Parlaiment Eustace ‘Teco’ Lake who will not be contesting the Rural South seat for health reasons.
Matthew’s appointment has been drafted by the Prime Minister’s office and is now awaiting confirmation by Governor General Sir Rodney Williams.
It is not yet known whether Matthew will assume all responsibilities currently held by Freeland which includes parliamentary secretary with responsibilities for the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.
Matthew currently sits as President of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association and also as executive member of the National Olympic Committee.
Freeland tendered his resignation to the Senate effective December 31, 2017 over the “auction-gate” scandal.

Michael boy……So it goes sometimes brother. This is more than one for the team. It will take something stronger than Punche Cuba to numb this blow.
Don’t try to numb the pain – face it, deal with it and with time you will heal and be stronger for having the experience of being in a dark place temporarily
We are absolutely off message here. I haven’t seen one comment about the process and underhanded way our lives are being administrated. We are heading back to the 1990’s case in point they were so awful arrogant and don’t care a Damm that the people ran them out of office in 2004. Now that attitude of arrogance and trying to dictate surfaced again and we are blinded with less important issues.
